Is Wish a scam?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below, we explain whether Wish is a scam and discuss some steps you can take to improve your safety when using this marketplace.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-is-wish\">What Is Wish?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Wish is an online marketplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"527\" src=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/rsz_wish.png\" alt=\"Wish\" class=\"wp-image-18768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/rsz_wish.png 1024w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/rsz_wish-300x154.png 300w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/rsz_wish-768x395.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It doesn\u2019t stock inventory itself, but instead connects buyers with third\u2011party merchants (primarily based in China and other low\u2011cost regions).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means that merchants list products on the platform, set their own prices, and ship directly to consumers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"is-wish-a-scam\">Is Wish a Scam?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Depends on what you mean by \u201cscam.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the years, Wish has been subject to several controversies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, there have been instances where products sold on Wish were found to be fake, illegal, or dangerous.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2021, under pressure from the French government over widespread safety and counterfeit concerns, Google (alongside other major tech firms) <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2021\/11\/29\/google-delists-wish-cyber-monday-product-safety-apple-microsoft-facebook\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">even delisted Wish<\/a> from its search results and app stores in France ahead of the holiday shopping season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/07\/07\/business\/media\/wish-online-dollar-store.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Investigations<\/a> revealed cases where sellers hosted fraudulent stores, creating situations in which customers would place orders for popular, heavily discounted items that either never shipped or were not as advertised.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>User reviews of Wish are mixed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>4.5 out of 5.0 stars (from 195,820 reviews) on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trustpilot.com\/review\/www.wish.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trustpilot<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4.7 out of 5.0 stars (from 14,442,932 reviews) on <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.contextlogic.wish&amp;hl=en_US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Google Play<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4.7 out of 5.0 stars (from 2,338,328 reviews) on the <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/wish-shop-and-save\/id530621395\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">App Store<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1.9 out of 5.0 stars (from 8,285 reviews) on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sitejabber.com\/reviews\/wish.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sitejabber<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1.3 out of 5.0 stars (from 1,882 reviews) on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.productreview.com.au\/listings\/wish\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ProductReview<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1.43 out of 5.0 stars (from 37 reviews) on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbb.org\/us\/ca\/san-francisco\/profile\/online-shopping\/wish-1116-443655\/customer-reviews\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Better Business Bureau<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>On online forums like Reddit, people\u2019s experiences with Wish are also mixed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Wish\/comments\/steis7\/is_wish_genuine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">One person said<\/a> they shop through Wish all the time, and even do their full Christmas shopping there: <em>\u201cPersonally, I have never had a problem with wish. I&#8217;ve done full Christmas shopping before just through this app. All the products that I get are as pictured and they all work. The only thing that I would say would be a negative for wish is the delivery time which is why you plan ahead. Other than that wish for me is an A1 company.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"719\" height=\"160\" src=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/wishredditpositive.png\" alt=\"Positive Reddit post about Wish\" class=\"wp-image-18769\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/wishredditpositive.png 719w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/wishredditpositive-300x67.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 719px) 100vw, 719px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>However, others said it\u2019s not uncommon to receive items you never ordered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As one user said:<em> \u201cI&#8217;ve gotten screwed by Wish a couple of times. Twice I ordered a wooden puzzle and they sent me stickers instead.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wish.com\/eu-terms?hide_login_modal=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">terms of service<\/a>, Wish makes it clear that it\u2019s merely a platform, i.e., merchants are solely responsible for product quality, the accuracy of listings, and the legality and safety of their products.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others said they were charged for items that were out of stock and found Wish customer service unhelpful: \u201c<em>Their customer service is appalling. Be prepared to contact your credit card company for a refund because Wish won&#8217;t. I was charged $ 20 shipping on an item that was &#8221; out of stock &#8220;.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Scams\/comments\/9zxafu\/the_wish_app_is_full_of_scammers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">One person<\/a> said that the advertised item vs the item you receive are usually different: <em>\u201cWish itself is a scam. It&#8217;s 95% false advertising. They advertise using pictures, descriptions and ad videos from legitimate products and send knock off versions. That&#8217;s why it&#8217;s so much cheaper than the products sold elsewhere. Plenty of YouTube videos showing advertised product vs what wish sent.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"737\" height=\"143\" src=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/wishredditnegative.png\" alt=\"Negative Reddit post about Wish\" class=\"wp-image-18770\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/wishredditnegative.png 737w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/wishredditnegative-300x58.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 737px) 100vw, 737px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/ExpectationVsReality\/comments\/mi6wuy\/wishcom_vs_reality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">numerous<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/CrappyDesign\/comments\/d2e45m\/this_winter_hat_i_ordered_on_wish_vs_the_one_i\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> posts<\/a> on Reddit comparing the items people ordered with the items they received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"748\" height=\"745\" src=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/wishwhatiorderedvswhatigot.png\" alt=\"&quot;This winter hat I ordered on Wish (VS) the one I received.&quot;\" class=\"wp-image-18771\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/wishwhatiorderedvswhatigot.png 748w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/wishwhatiorderedvswhatigot-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/wishwhatiorderedvswhatigot-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 748px) 100vw, 748px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Wish is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbb.org\/us\/ca\/san-francisco\/profile\/online-shopping\/wish-1116-443655\/complaints\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">not accredited<\/a> by the Better Business Bureau (BBB).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the BBB website, Wish has received a total of 257 complaints in the last three years, with 39 of these complaints closed within the last 12 months. It provides it directly to payment service providers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also says that it \u201cemploys various measures that are designed to comply with applicable portions of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS),\u201d but again doesn\u2019t go into the specifics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"748\" height=\"222\" src=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/wishcarddata.png\" alt=\"How does Wish protect my cardholder data? \" class=\"wp-image-18774\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/wishcarddata.png 748w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/wishcarddata-300x89.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 748px) 100vw, 748px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We were unable to find any additional information about Wish\u2019s security controls.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Privacy&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Wish describes the kind of information it collects, why it collects it, and with whom it shares it in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wish.com\/en-privacy-policy?hide_login_modal=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">privacy policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It collects the following data:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Identifiers, <\/strong>such as your name, email address, phone number, shipping address, social network accounts and credentials, device identifiers, advertising ID, and government identifiers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Commercial information, <\/strong>such as transaction data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Financial data, <\/strong>such as payment method or payment accounts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Contact information, <\/strong>such as email addresses, postal addresses, and phone numbers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Internet or other similar network and device activity, <\/strong>such as browsing behavior information, search history, IP address, and interactions with Wish websites, emails, and ads, including data from cookies, web beacons, and pixel tags.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Location information, <\/strong>such as general location and GPS location (with your permission).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Inferences regarding preferences and other characteristics, <\/strong>such as the types of products or services you may be interested in.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>User-generated content, <\/strong>such as reviews or profile pictures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Wish uses this data to set up and authenticate your account, process orders and payments, provide customer support, personalize your experience, market to you, test for bugs, prevent fraud, and comply with legal requirements.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It may also use it for analytics, corporate transactions (e.g., mergers and acquisitions), and investor relations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company may share your information with affiliates, contracted service providers (e.g., payment processors and logistics providers), merchants, and other users to fulfill orders and display reviews or wishlists, as well as advertising partners (e.g., Facebook and Google) for personalized ads (opt-outs are available).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, it may be shared with courts, regulators, law enforcement, or in business transaction scenarios (M&amp;A, bankruptcy), as well as with fraud prevention networks and, if authorized, unrelated third parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wish states it will retain your data for <em>\u201cas long as reasonably necessary for legitimate business purposes or as required by law.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also says that it specifies its retention periods in its data retention policy, but we couldn\u2019t find this policy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"202\" src=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/wishdataretention-1024x202.png\" alt=\"Wish privacy policy 'Data Retention' section \" class=\"wp-image-18775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/wishdataretention-1024x202.png 1024w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/wishdataretention-300x59.png 300w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/wishdataretention-768x152.png 768w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/wishdataretention.png 1518w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Personal data can be moved anywhere in Wish\u2019s global network (including the U.S.).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on where you live, you may have the right to exercise certain privacy rights, such as the right to obtain a copy of your personal information or request the deletion\/restriction of its processing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can edit or delete the information you provided Wish through your account settings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To opt out of advertising and personal information sharing, you need to fill out an online form or use Global Privacy Control.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Terms of Service; Didn\u2019t Read (ToS;DR), a project that rates internet services\u2019 terms of service and privacy policies, gives Wish <a href=\"https:\/\/tosdr.org\/en\/service\/2929\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a \u201cGrade E.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the worst grade available.
