It\u2019s a legitimate financial services app.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dave gets good reviews from third-party publications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bankrate.com\/loans\/personal-loans\/reviews\/dave\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bankrate<\/a> gives Dave Pay Advance App a rating of 4.7 out of 5.0 stars.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gobankingrates.com\/banking\/banking-reviews\/dave-app\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GOBankingRates<\/a> also gives the Dave app a 4.7 out of 5.0 stars score.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/personal-finance\/banking\/dave-banking-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Business Insider<\/a> says that Dave may be <em>\u201ca good choice if you&#8217;re looking for an account that&#8217;s easy to open. [&#8230;] It also offers a 2-day early direct deposit and a high interest rate of 4.00% APY.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Business Insider also warns of <em>\u201cpotential fees and limitations to the account. M[&#8230;] here&#8217;s a $1 monthly subscription fee to use the Dave app and limited ways to deposit cash.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebudgetdiet.com\/is-dave-legit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Budget Diet<\/a> recommends Dave for those looking for an affordable app with a high advancement limit. That said, it notes that its express fees are pricey.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneyrates.com\/checking\/dave-checking-review.htmhttps:\/\/www.moneyrates.com\/checking\/dave-checking-review.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MoneyRates<\/a> gives Dave a rating of 3.5 out of 5.0 stars.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>User reviews are more mixed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1.1 out of 5.0 stars (from 69 reviews) on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumeraffairs.com\/finance\/online-banks\/dave.html#:~:text=Is%20Dave%20legit%3F,credit%2Dbuilding%20and%20budgeting%20tools.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Consumer Affairs<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4.8 out of 5.0 stars (from 730.9k reviews) on the <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/dave-credit-cash-money-app\/id1193801909\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">App Store<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4.4 out of 5.0 stars (from 554,683 reviews and 10M+ downloads) on <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.dave&amp;hl=en_US&amp;pli=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Google Play<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1.9 out of 5.0 stars (from 14 reviews) on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trustpilot.com\/review\/dave.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trustpilot<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1.8 out of 5.0 stars (from 1,517 reviews) on <a href=\"https:\/\/dave-banking.pissedconsumer.com\/review.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PissedConsumer<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Common complaints include payments not showing up on their Dave account, leaving them unsure if Dave has received the funds. Others say Dave took payments twice or continued to withdraw money even after the debts were paid off.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most negative reviews say that Dave\u2019s customer service is unresponsive, only offering automated messages. You could easily find yourself in a constant state of borrowing and reborrowing, giving Dave there small % everytime.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dave is a Better Business Bureau <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbb.org\/us\/ca\/los-angeles\/profile\/bill-paying-services\/dave-1216-880663\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(BBB) accredited business<\/a> and has an \u201cA+\u201d rating. (Read our review <a href=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/is-it-scam\/is-the-bbb-a-scam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cIs BBB a Scam?\u201d<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Regulatory actions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/news-events\/news\/press-releases\/2024\/11\/ftc-takes-action-against-online-cash-advance-app-dave-deceiving-consumers-charging-undisclosed-fees\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a press release<\/a> saying it was taking action against Dave.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the FTC, Dave used misleading marketing tactics about its cash advances and charged undisclosed fees and \u201ctips\u201d without consumer consent.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"264\" src=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/daveftcaction-1024x264.png\" alt=\"Headline - &quot;FTC Takes Action Against Online Cash Advance App Dave for Deceiving Consumers, Charging Undisclosed Fees&quot;\" class=\"wp-image-18732\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/daveftcaction-1024x264.png 1024w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/daveftcaction-300x77.png 300w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/daveftcaction-768x198.png 768w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/daveftcaction.png 1247w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The FTC claimed that Dave advertised cash advances of &#8220;up to $500&#8221; when only a small number of users qualified for such amounts (one consumer reportedly said, <em>\u201cI only was able to get 25.00. Not very helpful.\u201d<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, despite advertising \u201cinstant\u201d access to advances, Dave requires users to pay an \u201cExpress Fee\u201d (which can range from $3 to $25) to get the money instantly, something that users only find out after sharing their bank details. Otherwise, consumers have to wait two to three business days for the advance.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Users also complained about being tricked into paying a \u201ctip\u201d of 15% of the advance and said they were unaware of the $1 monthly \u201cmembership fee.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Security<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In its <a href=\"https:\/\/dave.com\/privacy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">privacy policy<\/a>, Dave explains its security measures.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It says it has <em>\u201can information security program that includes administrative, technical, and physical measures to protect your information.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These measures include maintaining all applicable PCI DSS requirements, using industry-standard encryption, mobile app session timeouts, two-factor authentication, and periodic audits for security flaws.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"442\" src=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/davesecurity-2-1024x442.png\" alt=\"Dave privacy policy 'How We Secure Your Information' section \" class=\"wp-image-18733\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/davesecurity-2-1024x442.png 1024w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/davesecurity-2-300x130.png 300w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/davesecurity-2-768x332.png 768w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/davesecurity-2.png 1056w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2020, Dave experienced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bankingdive.com\/news\/dave-security-breach\/582426\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a data breach<\/a> in which 7.5 million Dave users\u2019 data was exposed.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The incident happened as a result of Dave\u2019s former third-party service provider being breached.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Exposed information included names, birth dates, phone numbers, physical addresses, and emails. The information was reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bitdefender.com\/en-us\/blog\/hotforsecurity\/cash-advance-service-dave-com-reports-data-breach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">auctioned off<\/a> on a hacking forum.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the breach, some Dave users filed <a href=\"https:\/\/topclassactions.com\/lawsuit-settlements\/privacy\/data-breach\/dave-app-users-file-data-breach-class-action-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a class action lawsuit<\/a> against the company, saying that it failed to take adequate measures to protect sensitive customer data and promptly notify users.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The incident caused <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Scams\/comments\/wzjzrx\/is_davecom_a_scam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">some users<\/a> to close their Dave accounts.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"158\" src=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/daveredditsecurity.png\" alt=\"Reddit post about Dave's security \" class=\"wp-image-18734\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/daveredditsecurity.png 720w, https:\/\/joindeleteme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/daveredditsecurity-300x66.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, Dave reported <a href=\"https:\/\/straussborrelli.com\/2024\/07\/11\/dave-data-breach-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">another security incident<\/a> involving its financial technology partner, Evolve Bank &amp; Trust. An unauthorized third party gained access to Evolve&#8217;s information environment, potentially impacting Dave users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Privacy&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Dave explains the kind of data it collects, why, and with whom it shares it in its <a href=\"https:\/\/dave.com\/privacy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">privacy policy<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It collects the following personal information:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Contact information (e.g., name, phone number, email address, and address).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sensitive information (e.g., date of birth, Social Security number, and driver\u2019s license number).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demographic information (e.g., marital status, citizenship status, and race and gender).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Biometric information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Location information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Internet or other network activity information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Professional\/employment-related information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Financial information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Commercial information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bank account and debit card information.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It may also collect information about you from third-party services (e.g., usernames, passwords, account numbers, and other account information for internet banking services) and information from cookies and web beacons.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plus, it may collect technical and navigation information (e.g., computer browser type, pages visited, internet protocol address, and how long you spent on the Dave site) and device data information (such as regional settings and preferences and motion and orientation data).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dave uses this data to process and verify the transactions you request, prevent fraud, and manage your Dave Card.
